The project explores the different effects Holi celebration rituals have on the environment. Part of the holiday's rituals includes going out to the streets and engaging in covering each other with colourful powder. The project aims to raise awareness and bring attention to the consequences of the mass use of colours of this kind. The holiday is widely celebrated not only in India, but also by Hindus around Pakistan, South Africa, Malaysia and more, and by international travellers (Bednarz, 2023), and as a result, the damage is significant.
As part of the project,  I researched different aspects of environmental harm caused by the holiday rituals such as water wastage, water pollution, and contaminating soil. I created a poster that will visualise the 'obvious', positive side of the celebrations and combine AR technology to showcase the consequences of celebrating the ritual in such a way.
Through colour, layout composition and typography, a visually appealing poster that is inviting for Holi celebrations was created.
With a QR scan using the EyeJack app, the poster will turn into an animation that demonstrates the consequences of the ritual.
